Study Abroad Options

Below are some of the special study abroad programs that take School of Journalism faculty and students abroad during the summer.

China (New for 2008!)

The Reporting China Maymester Abroad Program is a five-and-a-half week program that takes place in China from late May to late June. Professor Tracy Dahlby will lead students in a new apprenticeship-style course in international reporting that takes them to various locations in China, including Beijing and Shanghai.

Czech Republic

This six-week UT faculty-led study abroad program in Prague features a photojournalism course taught by School of Journalism professor Dennis Darling, as well as courses in Czech film studies, and Czech art and culture. The program provides a rich learning experience in a city renowned for its tradition of excellence in the visual arts.

Spain (New for 2008!)

Journalism professor Maggie Rivas-Rodriguez will teach Oral History as Journalism - Spain (J349T) in conjunction with the UT Spanish Language & Culture Program in Cádiz, Spain during UT’s first summer session 2008. This special faculty-led summer program aims to significantly improve student’s knowledge of the Spanish language.

Austria (New for 2008!)

The Salzburg Academy on Media & Global Change is a unique study abroad program held in Austria in late August and early September. Sixty students and a dozen faculty attend from all five continents gather to literally create a dynamic, online Global Media Literacy curriculum.
