The UIL journalism program has seen increased participation in recent years to the extent that Texas schools have more newspapers and yearbooks than any other state.
Intercollegiate League Press Conference (ILPC) involvement in education began approximately 79 years ago. The University of Texas Department of Journalism hosted a small group of high school students and advisers for the first ILPC convention. The convention had its beginning with Paul J. Thompson, a UT journalism professor who believed that wherever journalism was taught, it should be taught well.
Today, ILPC expects to host as many as 1,100 students and advisers for more than 100 instructional sessions presented by leaders in scholastic journalism, university journalism and professional media.
