4.27 Have Your Clips and Portfolios Critiqued by Newspaper Editors
This year’s Texas Associated Press Managing Editors annual convention will be held at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center on the University of Texas campus Friday-Sunday, April 24-26. Bring your materials to be critiqued Friday and take advantage of a chance to meet editors from around the state — at no charge. Students are also invited to attend sessions Saturday and Sunday and need pay only for the Saturday awards luncheon ($25) should they choose to attend.
Meeting Schedule

Friday, April 24
4-6:30 p.m. — College student information session with Texas APME editors.
Saturday, April 25
9-10:15 a.m. — “Innovations and best practices: How to cultivate a culture that embraces change and manages to effectively implement multiple dreams within your newsroom.”
10:30-noon — Concurrent Sessions
Session 1: “Niche products and alternative ways to deliver the news.”
Session 2: “Managing freelancers: How to maintain responsible coverage with fewer full-time staff.”
Noon — Awards luncheon. Guest speaker: Burl Osborne, former editor and publisher, The Dallas Morning News.
Sunday, April 26
9:30 a.m-10:30 — “Freedom of Information Report.” An update on activity in the Texas Legislature and threats to the State Public Information Act.
10:45 a.m.-noon — “When newspapers collide: Collaborating with onetime rivals.”
Noon — Final awards presentations
