Garlock's first book, "Pulitzer Prize Feature Stories," was published in May 1998 by Iowa State University Press. He is currently collaborating on a magazine management textbook with John Mack Carter of the Hearst Corp. A second edition of "Pulitzer Prize Features Stories" is due out in the fall.

The university's campus magazine, ORANGE, began in one of Garlock's magazine management classes where students created the business plan that made the magazine possible. Garlock continues to serve as faculty advisor for ORANGE.
