Dave Harmon graduated from UT with a journalism degree in 1991 and has worked as a reporter and editor at several Texas newspapers, including The Monitor (McAllen), the Fort Worth Star Telegram and the Austin American Statesman. Harmon joined the Statesman as a criminal courts reporter in 1995 and also covered the Texas-Mexico border and the Texas Legislature before switching to editing. He's currently an assistant metro editor and recently was named the internal writing coach for the metro desk. Harmon has won several APME and Katie awards for his writing, as well as a Texas Headliner award for a 1999 series on U.S. immigration enforcement on the border. He is the co-author of Powderburns: Cocaine, Contras and the Drug War, published in 1994 by Mosaic Press.
