Rusty Todd received his doctorate from Stanford University in 1982. He joined the University of Texas at Austin faculty as chair in 1993.

Todd has also served as an assistant professor at the University of Missouri School of Journalism. In 1984 he joined Dow Jones & Co. Inc. as news editor of the Asia Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong. From 1987 to early 1990 he covered Asia's smaller stock markets and authored the Asian Journal's popular "Your Money Matters" investment column.

In 1990, shortly after Dow Jones purchased Telerate global financial network, he was named development manager for Dow Jones/Telerate, Asia Pacific. In that position he helped create financial news services for the region.

In 1992, he led the New York team that created "Dow Jones Emerging Markets Report," which focuses on the economies of Latin America, Eastern Europe and Southeast Asia.

His research interests include the impact of communication variables on financial market behavior, emerging communication technologies, and international economic news coverage.

Todd's research has been published in Journal of Communication, Communication Research and Journalism Quarterly. His journalism has appeared in The Progressive, the Observer, Editor & Publisher, The IRE Journal and newspapers throughout the nation. He is a former aide to U.S. Rep. J.J. Pickle and former state editor of the Austin American-Statesman.
