ERIN MAYES, Adjunct Professor

Erin received a Bachelor of Science in Photojournalism from the University of Texas, and has worked as an art director and designer for over 20 years. She has served in this capacity for Pentagram, Danilo/Black Inc., Roger Black Consulting, Men’s Journal, Premiere, TVSM, Inc., Village Voice, Dallas Observer, Washington Post, and Whittle Communications. Her clients have included J. Crew, The National Enquirer, Star, Bloomingdale’s, Entrepreneur, Automobile, Reader’s Digest, Red Herring, Editor & Publisher, Internet World, Builder, San Francisco Examiner, Smart Money, Guitar Player, HOW magazine, PC Magazine, Yankee magazine, Metropolis, The Museum of Fine Art, Houston, Lands’ End, Random House, Yale University Press, Chronicle Books, and Society of Illustrators.

Since leaving Pentagram in 2006, she founded Em Dash LLC, a graphic design firm in Austin, Texas. Her clients include Denison University, Society of Illustrators, UT Press, Design for Use, and Random House.

Her work has received awards from the American Institute of Graphic Arts, the Society of Publication Designers, the Type Directors Club, Print, and American Illustration.

Erin taught editorial design at the School of Visual Arts in New York from 1999-2001 and started teaching advanced visual design at the University of Texas at Austin in January 2007.
