Texas and the Military
Few states in the Union have a longer or prouder military tradition than Texas. From the Alamo to valiant service in World War II and beyond, Texans have been among the first to heed the call in times of war and peace alike. And while citizens of the Lone Star still step forward to serve, and in large numbers, today’s military faces daunting challenges in meeting its wartime commitments in Iraq and Afghanistan at a time of new economic and social pressures at home. In the package of stories that follows, journalists enrolled in the Advanced Writing and Public Affairs Reporting course in the School of Journalism’s masters’ professional program, examine the evolving relationship between and among the military, those who serve and their Texas communities.

ABC News Launches
J-School Student Bureau
AUSTIN, Texas — May 7, 2008 —The University of Texas at Austin is one of only five schools where ABC News will create campus multimedia bureaus that will provide an opportunity for students to report on stories in their area and produce a wide array of content for ABC News’ various digital and broadcast platforms, including “Good Morning America,” “World News with Charles Gibson,” “Nightline,” ABC News NOW, ABCNEWS.com, mtvU, ABC News Radio and NewsOne.
