Texas Open Records & Meetings acts

Detailed information and examples of the Texas Open Records Act and the Texas Open Meetings Act can be found in the Texas Freedom of Information Handbook, a guide published by the Freedom of Information (FOI) Foundation of Texas Inc. See a sample of an Open Records Request letter.

The FOI Foundation is a nonprofit and independent organization that provides public service on First Amendment issues. The complete handbook can be ordered through the Freedom of Information site.

Other sources on the acts are the Open Records Handbook and the Open Meetings Handbook that are published by the Attorney General's Office annually. Copies are available in campus libraries and can also be obtained free of charge from the Attorney General's Office.
