Prof Kris Wilson Elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science
Professor Kris Wilson was recently elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for his “pioneering research on the role of weather forecasters in communicating accurate, credible information on climate change, and excellence in teaching future science communication specialists.”
Founded in 1848, the American Association for the Advancement of Science is dedicated to advancing science around the world by serving as an educator, leader, spokesperson and professional association. In addition to organizing membership activities, it publishes the journal Science, as well as many scientific newsletters, books and reports, and spearheads programs that raise the bar of understanding for science worldwide. It promotes cooperation among scientists, defends scientific freedom and encourages scientific responsibility.
Professor Wilson has always had an abiding interest in environmental reporting - his master’s from Ohio State is in environmental journalism and his Ph.D. from UC-Boulder is in geography. Professor Wilson, who returned to the UT Austin J-School in 2009 as a senior lecturer in broadcast news, teaches a course in reporting on the environment that is informed by his research. He’s also a pivotal member of the undergraduate studies committee that produced the new curriculum.
