Maxwell McCombs delivered the Melvin L. DeFleur Distinguished Lecture at Boston University this April. His lecture introduced a new area of agenda-setting research that is investigating an expanded perspective on the role of the news media in the formation of public opinion. This new work which examines the networked links among items on the media and public agendas has been called “the third level of agenda-setting effects.”

New York, NY— Yimou Lee, a graduate student at the University of Texas at Austin, is one of the 13 journalism students chosen by FASPE (Fellowships at Auschwitz for the Study of Professional Ethics) to participate in a two-week program in New York, Germany, and Poland in May 2012. This trip is one of four FASPE programs, each of which works with 13-15 students, designed to teach students about the contemporary ethical issues facing their professions by using the Holocaust and the conduct of their professions in Nazi Germany as a framework for study.
