Special J-school appearance: Bill Moyers

Bill Moyers will be joining the journalism school Monday, November 14, at 2 pm in Studio 6A of CMB. He’ll present a short  reel of some of his finest moments as an interviewer and reporter and then take questions from Mark Updegrove, director of the LBJ Library, and from students.

Tuesday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m., LBJ Auditorium

Bill Moyers will serve as the inaugural Tom Johnson lecturer. The lecture will be held in the LBJ Auditorium on Tuesday, November 15 at 6:00 p.m. Moyers is best known for his distinguished career in broadcasting.

He established Public Affairs Television in 1986, served as executive editor of Bill Moyers' Journal, senior news analyst for CBS Evening News, and chief correspondent for the documentary series CBS Reports. He has received more then 30 Emmy Awards, two prestigious Gold Baton awards from the Alfred I. DuPont Columbia University Award, nine Peabody awards, and three George Polk Awards, among others.

Before entering broadcasting, Moyers was Deputy Director of the Peace Corps and Special Assistant to Lyndon Johnson from 1963-1967, including two years as White House Press Secretary. Moyers is a graduate of The University of Texas.

Tickets: Seating is limited, and tickets are required for entry. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. At 5:50 p.m. (ten minutes before the program start) we will begin to fill empty seats from the standby line. As such, your ticket is not necessarily valid after 5:50 p.m. We encourage you to arrive by 5:45 p.m.

  1. PUBLIC: All general public tickets to the program with Bill Moyers have been distributed.

    On November 15, a stand by line will form in the lobby outside the LBJ Auditorium. Doors open at 5 p.m. Just before the program begins at 6 p.m., those in the stand by line will be invited into the Auditorium to fill any empty seats. Admission is not guaranteed and will be first come first serve.

    Overflow tickets are still available. If you received a ticket to overflow seating in the Bass Lecture Hall, you may stand in the stand by line. If you get seating in the Auditorium, your overflow ticket will be given to someone else. However, if you do not get into the Auditorium, you are guaranteed seating in the Bass Lecture Hall.

  2. U.T. STUDENTS: FREE tickets are available with a U.T. student ID at the Student Activities Center (SAC) ticket office located on the main floor beginning November 8 at 7:30 a.m. Limit one per student ID.

Stand-by Line: On the day of the program, a stand-by line will form in the upper lobby outside the LBJ Auditorium. Just before the program begins at 6:00 p.m., those in the stand-by line will be invited into the Auditorium to fill any empty seats. Admission is not guaranteed and will be first-come, first-serve.

Location and Parking: Free parking will be available in the LBJ Library visitors' lot (lot #38) and, after 4:00 p.m., in lots #37 and #39. Overflow parking will be in Manor Garage on a self-pay, space available basis. The LBJ Auditorium is located on the lower level of the LBJ complex at 2313 Red River Street. Access to the Auditorium will be through the lobby of the LBJ School of Public Affairs or through the south Auditorium doors by the LBJ Fountain.
