From Texas to Times Square: Lessons From a Young Reporter
Emma Graves Fitzsimmons, a New York Times journalist and UT alum, will speak on campus 2 p.m. Friday, offering students practical advice about building a career as a reporter and how she approaches the job as a woman. The one-hour talk, “From Texas to Times Square: Lessons Learned by a Young Reporter," will be held in Room 5.208 in the Belo Center for New Media.
Graves Fitzsimmons is a transit reporter at The Times, covering the city's subways, buses, bikes, taxis, and “everything that moves” in the region. She previously covered breaking news at The Times and worked in the newspaper’s Chicago bureau.
Graves Fitzsimmons, who graduated from the School of Journalism in 2006, worked at the Daily Texan and had internships at the Galveston County Daily News, Austin American-Statesman and Boston Globe. She worked as a metro reporter at the Chicago Tribune before joining The Times in 2009.
