Degree Requirements

The School of Journalism requires 120 hours of coursework for graduation from the undergraduate program. A minimum of 33 and a maximum of 36 hours of major-specific coursework in the School of Journalism must be met, among other requirements. Undergraduate students must complete a specific combination of core curriculum, major coursework, Communication requirements, and electives to earn the degree. All of this information can be found on the Office of Student Affairs Bachelor of Journalism Degree Requirements page

The information provided on our undergraduate program describes the program as it exists for current UT Austin Journalism majors. Beginning in the fall 2012 semester, we are instituting a new converged curriculum that will introduce undergraduates to multimedia tools and skills from their first day in the program while emphasizing traditional journalistic values and critical thinking. Once final approval has been granted for the new curriculum, we will update our website accordingly. For more information, please contact the School of Journalism.
