Eileen Flynn DeLaO is a freelance writer, editor and speaker specializing in religion. She has taught the course Journalism & Religion off-and-on since 2007 and regularly speaks to community organizations about media coverage of religion and the importance of religious literacy. A longtime newspaper reporter and columnist, DeLaO was the religion writer for the Austin American-Statesman for many years and previously covered politics and government in Boston for MediaNews Group newspapers. She began her newspaper career at age 17 with an internship at the North Adams Transcript in Western Massachusetts and continued to work there while earning a bachelor's degree in English/Creative Writing with a minor in Philosophy from Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
DeLaO is a member of the Religion Newswriters Association and the Concordia University Communications Advisory Council. She lives in Austin with her husband, a graduate of UT's School of Law, and two Longhorn-loving daughters.
