Doctoral Student

Kami Vinton is a doctoral candidate in the School of Journalism and Media at the University at Texas at Austin, where she is also a teaching assistant.

Her research focuses on how the mass media can impact public health behaviors. Her dissertation investigates psychological states and cognitive predispositions that reflect how a population can more likely come to reject science and health news created by journalists.

She is working towards uncovering new techniques that journalists can use to increase the receptivity of audiences who are skeptical of science to reduce the risk of poor personal and community health outcomes.
