Bio: Martin J. Riedl is a doctoral student in the School of Journalism and a teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously, he received an M.A. in Media Management from Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media (Germany) and a B.A. in Journalism and Media Management from FHWien University of Applied Sciences (Austria). Prior to coming to UT Austin, he prepared for his doctoral studies in the M.A. Research Training Program in Social Sciences at Humboldt University of Berlin (Germany).
Riedl’s research interests center around the intersection of journalistic practice and reader engagement and cover a wide-ranging field that encompasses the sociology of news work, online news comments, the economics of online news, as well as digital and social media technologies.
With an educational background in journalism, media management and social sciences, Riedl’s professional experience includes marketing-related tasks with German media companies, as well as advertising, project management and editorial work with an Austrian magazine publisher, and internships with Austrian news outlets.
