Master's Student
Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Cristela Jones is an MA Journalism graduate student in the master’s professional track at The University of Texas at Austin. Cristela graduated from Texas State University in the summer of 2021 with a B.S. in Electronic Media and a minor in Spanish. While attending Texas State, she worked as a contributor, reporter and editor for the Life and Arts section at The University Star, Texas State’s student-run newspaper. At The Star, she centered her stories on amplifying minority voices and highlighting local San Marcos businesses and restaurants. She also worked as an editorial intern at The San Antonio Current, San Antonio’s free alternative newspaper where she wrote stories covering San Antonio events, news and cultura! After graduation, Cristela aspires to become a culture journalist covering underreported communities in South Texas or New York City.
