Study Abroad with Journalists in China, the Czech Republic or Austria

Below are some of the special study abroad programs that take School of Journalism faculty and students abroad during the summer. Many other opportunities are also available through the UT Study Abroad Office. You also may visit the College of Communication International Programs site.

China

The International Reporting China Maymester Abroad Program is a five-and-a-half week program that takes place in China from late May to late June. Professor Tracy Dahlby leads students in a special apprenticeship-style course in international reporting that takes them to various locations in China. Student work.

Czech Republic

This UT Maymester Abroad program in Prague features a photojournalism course taught by School of Journalism professor Dennis Darling and is open to students with all levels of photography experience. The program provides a rich learning experience in a city renowned for its tradition of excellence in the visual arts.

Austria

This summer program includes a 3-week online course component designed to provide students with a rigorous outline of news curation, comparative news theories and multimedia storytelling, and 3 weeks on site in Salzburg, where students create an online global media literacy curriculum. Classes are held in the world-renowned Schlossleopoldskron, an 18th century Rococo palace built by the Prince Archbishop of Salzburg.
