Jennifer Castillo Cortes

Jennifer is a PhD student at the School of Journalism and Media. She investigates the role of local bilingual newsrooms in the United States, media literacy practices, and the role of newspaper stands in Mexico. Her research methods are primarily qualitative. With her research, she hopes to enhance journalism practices to create engaged communities and strengthen media trust.
Beyond academia, she has professional experience working on news projects and in communications across non-profits and healthcare. She earned both her undergraduate and her masters degree from The University of Texas at Austin. Jennifer enjoys meeting new people, listening to stories and cooking.
