Jin Young Hwang worked as a newspaper journalist in Seoul, South Korea, for 20 years. He covered the presidential office, social affairs, the financial industry, and major business groups. He was selected for an overseas training program for journalists run by the LG Sangnam Press Foundation and studied in Shanghai, China, for one year. He received the Samsung Journalism Award — one of the most prestigious journalism awards in South Korea — twice, in 2008 and 2010. Hwang feels a deep sense of camaraderie with journalists around the world. He is passionate about exploring how good journalism can be made sustainable, as it ultimately enhances the overall quality of journalists’ lives. He aims to research business models and media policies that support journalism and journalists. His paper on the correlation between digital news promotional periods and subscription decisions was selected as the Top Student Paper in the Media Management, Economics & Entrepreneurship Division at the 2025 AEJMC conference.
