Rebecca Butler is an MA-Professional Track student. She studied journalism and mass communication at Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas. Upon graduation from Texas State, Rebecca obtained a position teaching English, business communication, and journalism at Hempstead ISD, a rural school district on the outskirts of the Greater Houston area. While employed with Hempstead ISD, Rebecca reinstated the yearbook club and founded the social media club. Rebecca also co-founded an internship program for students interested in photojournalism, public relations, and news writing and reporting. In this program, juniors and seniors build resumes and portfolios by creating multimedia content for the district's website and social media platforms.
During Rebecca's time teaching and coordinating programs and clubs at Hempstead ISD, she realized that her true passion lies in storytelling and multimedia journalism. She hopes to use her prior experience in education and new experience in the JAM master's program to pursue a career in K-12 communications upon graduation.
In her spare time, Rebecca enjoys listening to music, playing guitar, reading, and writing.
