Shunya Carroll is a master’s student in the School of Journalism and Media. Shunya's interest lie in the intersection of music, culture, fashion and politics. He is most excited to experiment with augmented content of a story. He wants to write, photograph and create new ways for audiences to interact with a story.
Before entering the master's program, Shunya was a high school science teacher. He had students work with city events, civic services and local leaders. They collaborated with Austin’s environmental programs, the Texas Book Festival, Austin Park Foundation and more. As a former Stanford University Hollyhock fellow, Shunya maintains a focused network of high school educators and keeps up with the state of learning.
Shunya looks forward to exploring third spaces. As a teacher, he noticed students had fewer spaces to congregate and more avenues to distance from communities. He uses journalism as a tool to build community and inspire people to participate in local culture.
