Yanran Gong

Yanran is a second-year master’s student whose research takes a critical and cultural approach to political communication. Her work explores how emerging media articulate both the democratic potentials and structural constraints of public expression in authoritarian contexts. Drawing on mixed methods, she examines how mediated publics negotiate participation, moral emotions, and civic imagination amid complex state–market entanglements.

 

Originally from China, she earned her B.A. in Journalism from Beijing International Studies University. Outside academia, Yanran is an avid national park enthusiast, enjoys skiing and ball sports, and works part-time as a film critic writing about Asian cinema and cultural politics.
