Digital Storytelling Basics
Lower division students learn about the various forms of journalism, from audio and video to social media. This class is taught by Professor of Practice Robert Quigley.
Reporting with Data
This class introduces students to the basics of computer-assisted reporting. Students learn how to locate and analyze data sets, use data visualization to accurately report with data, and presenting the results through stories, charts and maps. This class is taught by Innovation Director Christian McDonald and Dr. Josephine Lukito.
Intro to Coding for Journalists
Upper division students learn basic coding skills and develop best practices used in digital newsrooms to create data-driven online presentations. Students learn programming languages with the goal to introduce students to computer programming. The class is taught by Christian McDonald and adjunct professor Jeff Linwood.
Digital Innovations Capstone Class
The Digital Innovations Capstone is a cross-disciplinary senior level course where students work together on teams to create data driven innovative media products. The class is taught by Christian McDonald.
I was so excited that using data put me in a position where I can find original trends or outliers without having to attribute to a human source. Frankly, I felt empowered by this new set of tools.
